Why French Dip Sliders Are a Must-Try
French Dip Sliders are more than just a meal; they’re an experience. Their compact size makes them incredibly versatile. As a main course, they offer a satisfying dinner that’s much quicker than traditional recipes. For entertaining, they shine as an appetizer, allowing guests to easily enjoy a gourmet bite without the fuss. The combination of sweet rolls, savory beef, and salty au jus is a flavor symphony that appeals to all ages. Plus, the ease of assembly means less time in the kitchen and more time enjoying delicious food with loved ones.
Essential Ingredients for Perfect French Dip Sliders
Crafting these delectable sliders requires a few key ingredients, each playing a crucial role in achieving that signature French Dip flavor. The beauty of this recipe lies in its simplicity, relying on readily available items to create a gourmet experience.

- Rolls: A 12-pack of Hawaiian sweet rolls is ideal. Their signature sweetness and fluffy texture perfectly complement the savory fillings, and their connected structure makes assembly a breeze.
- Cheese: Slices of provolone cheese are our top choice. Provolone melts beautifully and offers a mild, slightly nutty flavor that pairs wonderfully with roast beef. Feel free to use your favorite good-melting cheese.
- Onions: French-fried onions add a fantastic textural contrast and a burst of savory flavor. They toast up perfectly in the oven, providing a delightful crunch to each slider.
- Beef: High-quality deli roast beef is key. Opt for thinly sliced beef for the best texture and ease of layering.
For the Irresistible Glaze & Au Jus Dipping Sauce
The secret to these sliders’ incredible flavor and golden-brown tops lies in the glaze and the accompanying au jus. Don’t skip these steps – they elevate the sliders from good to absolutely amazing!
- Butter: Melted butter forms the rich base of our glaze, ensuring a golden, flavorful crust on the rolls.
- Worcestershire Sauce: This adds a layer of deep, savory umami to the glaze, enhancing the beefy flavors.
- Seasoning: A packet of Au Jus dry gravy mix is essential. We’ll use a portion for the glaze and the rest for the dipping sauce, ensuring a cohesive flavor profile.
- Seeds: A sprinkle of white sesame seeds not only adds a beautiful visual appeal but also a subtle nutty crunch.
- Spices: Minced garlic in the glaze provides a fragrant, aromatic kick that permeates the rolls as they bake.
- Water: For preparing the Au Jus dipping sauce.
How to Make French Dip Sliders: Step-by-Step Guide
Get ready to assemble these delicious sliders in minutes! This straightforward process ensures a perfect batch every time.
Step 1: Preheat Your Oven
Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175°C). This ensures the sliders bake evenly and the cheese melts perfectly.
Step 2: Prepare the Savory Glaze Mixture

In a small mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon of the Au Jus dry gravy mix, sesame seeds, and minced garlic. Stir these ingredients together until well combined. Set this flavorful glaze aside; you’ll use it to brush over the sliders before baking.
Step 3: Assemble the Sliders

Carefully slice the entire package of Hawaiian sweet rolls in half horizontally using a serrated knife, keeping the rolls connected. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Place the bottom half of the rolls onto the parchment-lined pan. Layer half of the provolone cheese slices evenly over the bottom rolls, followed by all of the thinly sliced roast beef. Next, brush or drizzle half of the prepared glaze evenly over the roast beef. Sprinkle the French-fried onions generously over the beef layer. Finally, top with the remaining provolone cheese slices, and gently place the top half of the rolls back on, creating your slider assembly.
Step 4: Glaze and Bake
Brush or drizzle the remaining savory glaze over the top of the assembled rolls. Ensure an even coating for a beautiful golden-brown finish.

Bake the sliders in your preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is wonderfully melty and bubbly, and the tops of the rolls are golden and slightly crisp.
Step 5: Prepare the Au Jus Dipping Sauce
While your sliders are baking, prepare the essential Au Jus dipping sauce. In a small pot on the stove, combine the remaining Au Jus dry gravy mix packet with 1 1/2 cups of water. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, whisking frequently, until the sauce slightly thickens to your desired consistency. Serve this warm, savory Au Jus in individual small bowls on the side of your dish, perfect for dipping your delicious sliders.
How to Store and Reheat Leftover French Dip Sliders
If you happen to have any leftovers of these juicy roast beef sliders, don’t worry – they store and reheat well, ensuring you can enjoy them again!
Fridge: To store, allow the sliders to cool completely. You can either place them in an airtight container or wrap individual sliders or sections in aluminum foil. Then, place the wrapped sliders into a large ziplock bag for extra freshness. They will stay delicious in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days.

Reheating: For best results, reheat sliders in a preheated oven or air fryer at 300°F (150°C) for about 5-10 minutes, or until warmed through and the cheese is re-melted. This method helps maintain the crispness of the rolls. You can also microwave them for a quicker reheat, though the rolls may become softer. Reheat the au jus gently on the stovetop or in the microwave until warm.
Tips and Tricks for Making Delicious Hawaiian Roll Sliders
While this recipe is incredibly easy, a few tips can ensure your French Dip Sliders are always a triumph.
Choosing the Best Bread for French Dip Sliders
King’s Hawaiian rolls are truly the star for this slider recipe. Their unique sweetness and soft, fluffy texture create a delightful contrast with the savory roast beef and rich au jus. When baked, they achieve a wonderfully golden and slightly crispy top, thanks to the butter glaze.
However, if you’re looking to transform this into a heartier, full-sized sandwich experience, consider using hoagie rolls or sub-buns. These provide a more traditional French Dip feel and can hold more filling. For a different flavor profile, brioche buns or even potato rolls could also work, offering varying degrees of sweetness and richness.
Picking the Perfect Cheese
The best cheese for these sliders is, without a doubt, a good melting cheese. Provolone is a classic choice for French Dip sandwiches because of its mild flavor and superior melting qualities, creating those desirable long, stretchy cheese pulls. However, don’t limit yourself! Feel free to experiment with other cheeses that melt well and complement roast beef, such as:
- Swiss Cheese: Offers a slightly nuttier, more pungent flavor.
- Mozzarella: Provides excellent meltiness and a very mild taste.
- White Cheddar: For a sharper, creamier cheese experience.
- Muenster: Known for its smooth texture and mild, buttery flavor when melted.
The goal is to choose a cheese you love that will become wonderfully gooey and meld with the roast beef as it bakes.
