Essential Ingredients for Your Sheet Pan Honey Mustard Ham Dinner

Creating this incredibly simple yet flavorful sheet pan meal requires just a few pantry staples and fresh ingredients. Each component plays a vital role in building the robust and satisfying flavor profile that makes this dish a true standout. Here’s what you’ll need to gather:

  • Golden Potatoes: These are my top choice for their delightfully buttery texture and how beautifully they crisp up when roasted. While golden varieties like Yukon Golds are ideal, feel free to use small red potatoes or even Russets if that’s what you have on hand. Ensure they are diced into uniform, bite-sized pieces for even cooking.
  • Green Beans: Fresh green beans offer a wonderful crunch and vibrant color to the dish. Make sure they are thoroughly trimmed at the ends for the best eating experience. You can also use frozen green beans for convenience; simply thaw them before roasting.
  • Olive Oil: A fundamental ingredient, olive oil helps to evenly coat the vegetables and ham, ensuring they roast beautifully and develop a golden, appetizing crust. It also serves as the base for our flavorful honey mustard sauce.
  • Minced Garlic: Freshly minced garlic infuses both the vegetables and the sauce with an irresistible aromatic depth, enhancing the overall savory profile of the meal.
  • Honey: This natural sweetener is crucial for balancing the tang of the mustard, creating that signature sweet-and-savory honey mustard glaze that makes this dish so addictive.
  • Yellow Mustard: The classic tang and slight pungency of yellow mustard provide the essential “zing” to our glaze. For a bolder flavor, you could experiment with Dijon mustard or a coarse-ground variety.
  • Water: A small amount of water helps to achieve the perfect consistency for our honey mustard sauce, ensuring it’s thin enough to coat everything evenly but thick enough to cling during roasting.
  • Dried Rosemary: Earthy and piney, dried rosemary complements ham and potatoes exceptionally well. If you have fresh rosemary, about a tablespoon of chopped fresh herbs can be used for an even more potent flavor.
  • Garlic Powder: An additional layer of garlic powder ensures that the vegetables are thoroughly seasoned and infused with a rich, savory taste.
  • Salt and Pepper: These fundamental seasonings are critical for enhancing all the natural flavors of our ingredients, bringing everything into delicious harmony.
  • Ham Steak: The star of our protein, a pre-cooked ham steak is incredibly convenient for this recipe. It heats through quickly and absorbs the honey mustard glaze wonderfully. You can often find packaged ham steaks in the refrigerated section of your grocery store, or ask your deli counter for a fresh, thick-sliced piece.

Mastering Your Sheet Pan: How to Make Honey Mustard Ham, Green Beans, and Potatoes

This sheet pan meal might look impressive, but its simplicity is truly deceptive! The key to achieving perfectly cooked, tender vegetables and juicy ham on one pan lies in understanding the different cooking times of your ingredients. Many “one-pan” recipes suggest throwing everything in at once, but this often leads to some components being undercooked and others overcooked. To avoid soggy vegetables or dry ham, we employ a staggered cooking method that ensures every element reaches its peak perfection.

Here’s a detailed breakdown of how to prepare this delightful Honey Mustard Ham, Green Beans, and Potatoes sheet pan dinner:

Step One: Kickstart Your Veggies for Perfect Tenderness. Begin by preheating your oven to 400°F (200°C). This high temperature is crucial for achieving that desirable roasted texture. Next, take your golden potatoes and dice them into uniform, bite-sized pieces – consistency here means even cooking. Trim the ends of your fresh green beans. On a large, greased sheet pan, spread the potatoes and green beans in a single layer. Drizzle them with about 1 tablespoon of olive oil, and season generously with salt and pepper. Toss gently to ensure all vegetables are coated. Place the pan in the preheated oven and roast for approximately 10 minutes. This initial bake gives the denser vegetables a head start.

Step Two: Craft Your Signature Honey Mustard Glaze. While your vegetables are roasting, it’s the perfect time to prepare the star of the show: the honey mustard sauce. In a small bowl, combine the honey, yellow mustard, minced garlic, the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil, water, dried rosemary, and garlic powder. Whisk all these ingredients together until thoroughly combined and smooth. Taste and adjust the seasoning with additional salt and pepper as needed. This tangy, sweet, and aromatic glaze will elevate the ham and infuse the entire dish with incredible flavor.

Step Three: Integrate the Ham and Apply the Glaze. After 10 minutes, carefully remove the sheet pan from the oven. Using a spatula, gently flip the potatoes and green beans to promote even browning. Now, slice your ham steak in half or into smaller, manageable portions if desired. Place the ham pieces directly onto the sheet pan, nestled among the partially cooked vegetables. Generously brush the prepared honey mustard sauce over the ham, ensuring each piece is well coated. You can also drizzle any remaining sauce over the vegetables for an extra layer of flavor.

Step Four: The Final Bake to Golden Perfection. Return the sheet pan to the oven and continue baking for another 25 to 28 minutes. During this time, the ham will heat through and absorb the delicious glaze, while the potatoes and green beans will finish cooking to fork-tender perfection. To add an irresistible crispy finish and beautiful caramelization, briefly broil the entire pan for 1-2 minutes at the very end. Keep a close eye on it during broiling to prevent burning, as things can char quickly. Once done, remove from the oven, serve immediately, and prepare to delight your family with this impressive yet incredibly easy meal!
